On Sunday April 19th 2026, Southend Wheelers present The Florrie Newbery Classic Women's road race as the first round of the 2026 British Women's Team Cup competition. 


Florrie Newbery was the first female to join Southend Wheelers on 3rd February 1937. Florrie went on to lead many club runs and was also the first female committee member. 


This race is dedicated to Florrie. The race offers a testing course with a long climb and a fast descent. 


Will the breakaway stay away? Or will the hill to the finish be the decider this year?

10 Laps of the East Hanningfield Road Race Circuit.


The race will finish on the 10th lap at the top of the Pan Lane rise.


All riders will be finished once the lead peloton has crossed the finish even if you are more than a lap down, but all riders will be placed according to Team Cup rules.

13:30 – Sign on closesReserves sign on commences

13:45 – Marshals’ and race convoy briefing

13:45 – Race control closes

13:50 – Riders assemble in village hall car park

13:55 – Riders’ briefing14:00 – Race start – neutralized for 2.8 miles / 4.5 km

16:30 – Approximate time of finish

17:00 – Prize presentation at race HQ (approx..)

18:00 – Event HQ closes
