Round 4 London Dynamo Summer Road Race

Sunday 10th June 2024 saw the fourth round of the British Women’s Team Cup, with the London Dynamo Summer Road Race.

A slightly blustery and cloudy day (perfect for racing!) saw a fast paced first lap stringing out the bunch on a challenging parcours. Four riders worked hard to push the race forwards, including Dannie Watkinson (Jadan Vive le Velo), Katherine Sheridan (Private Member), and Ione Johnson (The Phoenix Collective), Georgia Bullard (Doltcini O’Shea).

Lap 1 saw a crash involving a touch of wheels, which neutralised the race for the rest of the lap. Four riders were unfortunately involved, including Katy Hill (of London Academy, who won the Banbury Star Combativity Award). We wish all of the riders involved a speedy recovery and express our gratitude to the paramedics who attended the incident quickly.

The neutralisation enabled the peloton to regroup but the British Cycling commissaires were great and included time gaps in the re-start.

The next few laps saw various moves and attacks on climbs, but the bunch was brought back together for the bell lap, where riders more than 15 minutes behind were pulled. These riders of course still score points emphasising the team nature of the competition.

The final lap saw a long-range attack and then a reduced bunch sprint with a 500 meter climb to the line.

The final podium results were:

1st Floren Scrafton (FTP Race Team)
2nd Cecilia Hime (Paradigm Cycling)
3rd Helen Ralston (Paceline RT)

The Combativity Award was given to Grace Reynolds (Brother On-Form) for being brought down in a crash but getting back on and finishing the race.
